Child Has Pain In Mouth, Fever, Taken Motrin, Not Eating Well

My Son is 27 months old and 2 days ago started crying that his mouth hurt him. Ive continued to check his temperature and its stayed around 98.8 for the last 2 days. He still plays well. about every 6 hours he complains again that his mouth hurts. Ive tried checking inside his mouth, (very hard to do). From what I can get a look at I dont see anything in his throat . He does occasionally say it is his teeth . I have given him equal brand for childrens motrin. He awoke about 30 mins ago with a fever of 99.6. I just gave him more baby motrin. He is asleep again. Sleeping more, but not eating well. (He does go through spurts with eating though).

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Since your son's mouth is hurting and now he has a fever to suggest that there is something wrong .I would advise you to get him examined by his doctor to rule out throat infection or sores in the mouth.

At present you could continue with motrin as and when required. Also give him a diet which is acceptable to him and easy to swallow and liquids to keep him well hydrated.

Regards.
