Child Have Watery Stools, Bloated Stomach And Burps. No Medication Given Till Now. What To Do?
My 19 month old threw up before bed two days in a row. Then for the pass couple of weeks his stools have been watery yellow and foul smelling. He has been passing rotten egg gas and burps. His stomach also appears bloated. Seems to eat and drink as normal. Acts more fussy and tired but no fever. Today he hasn't had any bowel movements just gassy. Really starting to worry.
hi ! did you give your child anything new to eat during last few days ? three causes come to mind i.e. viral diarrhea , bacterial diarrhea or malabsorption. normally in viral diarrhea loose motions are preceded by vomiting & slight fever but it self corrects in 1-2 weeks. gaseous distention is common symptom in all three cases. as it is persisting for last 2 weeks i guess you need to get his stool test done & get back with the reports. take care.
Hi the description which you have given sounds like gatroenteritis most likrly viral. The child may have devoloped secondary lactose intolarence due to damage of intestinal floora due to infection. I suggest to give him Electrol/Diarolye sachet dissolving 1 sachet in 300mls of boiled and cool water frequently. I also suggest to give him lactose free milk instead of ordinary milk. You can get them all over the counter. If the condition does not improve or the child refuses to feed you should take him to hospital where he will have fluid intravainously also have stool examined for culture and sensitivity for bacterial infection.
