Child Having Continuous Greenish Loose Stools. Had A Strep Infection. Advice?
Hello Doctor , My child (Male) has continueous loose stool in green color , last week he was admitted for strips & 4 days it was solid . But it got started again. From our first incident onwards we stopped COW MILK ( boiled severely with more water content ). Eventhough we feed Lactozen , this issue persist . kindly help in this regard.
Dear ravixp I am sorry to hear about your child. I think your child is suffering from secondary lactose
intolarence. This quite often happens after gastroenteritis in children. The enzymes (Lactase) which
helps to digest Lactose(milk sugar)stop working, and as a result child gets recurrent diarrhoea. I feel
you should take your child to doctor who may examine him throughly and prescribe lactose free milk.
He/She may also send the stool for culture and sensitivity and other tests for infection. I hope your child
should peedy recovery.
He must have been on antibiotics for the strep infection. Antibiotics can sometimes cause diarrhoea as it alters the normal gut flora and kills the good bacteria as well. You can give your son Nutrolin-B syrup (if your son is less than 1 year give him 2.5 ml once daily for 5 days) which contains Vitamin B complex as well as good bacteria (lactobacilli).
If age of child is more than 6 months give him rice gruel (kanji) with a pinch of salt and so on.
If symptoms persist, please visit the paediatrician.
