Hello,
Thanks for posting on HCM,
Your child is obviously suffering from
gastroenteritis, and even though the most common cause is by a virus known as
rotavirus but it also can be caused by bacteria (which are common when child or environmental hygiene are not optimal). Given the scenario, it is possible that since the
diarrhea is ameliorating, it could likely be a viral infection which does not usually require any direct cause treatment but rather symptomatic treatment, hence the use of ORS.
How ever, even if the cause was bacteria, it is unnecessary to associate two antibiotics such as taxim (brand name: cefixime) and diof (brand name: metronidazole/
ofloxacin) as a single would have sufficed.
So, if diarrhea persist, then it is unlikely viral cause but rather bacterial and rarely yeast infection and you will need to give one of the two antibiotics to your child so as to eradicate the pathogen.
A stool exams and blood tests might become necessary if the episodes of soft/
watery stools persist so as to do determine the exact cause, as other blood-borne pathogens maybe responsible.
Hope this helps
