Thanks for posting your query here.

From what you've described and BERA test results, it seems he has moderate deafness. (BERA test along with other audiometry test does help to differentiate between 2 types of deafness).

It is quite possible that he can listen to certain frequencies of sound and not to others. The fact that he is unable to speak is slightly worrying at his age of 3 years.

If the tests have shown that he has sensorineural deafness (the nerves which carry sounds to brain are not working properly), he should have cochlear implant (which is a small surgery to put the hearing device to help him to listen).

Further therapy in his case would entirely depend on what the BERA and Audiometry test results show.

I would like to stress that at his age, things would need to be expedited otherwise his speech may get delayed permanently. Please liaise with your doctor and come back here if you have any further queries.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

It seems the child is having deafness to certain range of sound frequencies.

But for speech development, hearing function is important.

Consult the pediatrician, ENT specialist, and audiologist for the assessment of his hearing completely.

Hearing aids or implants may be necessary to improve his hearing function.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
