Child Is Deaf As Per BERA Test. Responds To Sound, Cannot Speak. Help
Hi, i just want to ask that my son almost 3yrs old. As per bera test conducted it is found that both of his ear are deaf. but what i see in reality that he responds to sound. for example when his favourite song is played on t.v he comes from the other room to watch it. when i say dance. he dance and various other activity related to sound. the only thing is that he does not speek. though he reacts to various sound made and follows command
From what you've described and BERA test results, it seems he has moderate deafness. (BERA test along with other audiometry test does help to differentiate between 2 types of deafness).
It is quite possible that he can listen to certain frequencies of sound and not to others. The fact that he is unable to speak is slightly worrying at his age of 3 years.
If the tests have shown that he has sensorineural deafness (the nerves which carry sounds to brain are not working properly), he should have cochlear implant (which is a small surgery to put the hearing device to help him to listen).
Further therapy in his case would entirely depend on what the BERA and Audiometry test results show.
I would like to stress that at his age, things would need to be expedited otherwise his speech may get delayed permanently. Please liaise with your doctor and come back here if you have any further queries.
