Hi,

Thank you for your query.

It is advisable to get your child's stool examination done so that appropriate medication can be started. Enterogermina will change the flora of the intestinal gut but will not control the motions till the root cause is treated.

It is advisable to give ORS or butter milk, coconut water, etc. to correct dehydration rather than orange juice as fruit juices tend to increase motions.

Because of loose motions your child is less active but if there is no improvement in the level of activity then it is better to consult a doctor to be on the safer side.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Regards,

RKK

Pediatrician Dr. Sudha Shree Venkataraman's  Response
Hi

It looks like your kid is having Gastroenteritis, infection of the stomach and intestines.

Enterogermina is a probiotic that reduces the frequency and duration of diarrhea, but it will not stop the loose stools as soon as you give. Give it in recommended doses of 2 times or 3 times a day. By increasing the dosage, it will not cause any good.

Modify his diet.
Stop cow`s milk for a few days
Give him lot of curd, rice based porridge, vegetable soups, mashed potato, banana, soya milk.
You may also give porridge made of sago grain.
Avoid fruit juices as they might increase the frequency of loose stools.

Just be sure that he does not get dehydrated. He must pass urine at least 4 to 5 times a day. Give him adequate fluids like plain water, ORS and above mentioned food items.

If he is very dull, tired, his urine frequency is less, take him to your Pediatrician as they suggest dehydration.
It usually takes 4 to 5 days for loose stools to stop in viral diarrhea.
Hope my answer helps you.
Wish a speedy recovery for your kid.
