Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Your baby's symptoms of loose stools with mucus and fever are indicative of a gastro-enteritis (an infection in the digestive system). I would advise you to keep giving him Oral Rehdration Solution (ORS) - e.g. Electral powder, which has to be mixed in 1 litre of clean water and given frequently. This will prevent dehydration and replenish the water and salt loss. Most diarrhoes in children are due to viral infections and are self-limiting. However, if he continues to have further episodes or if the fever is persisting, he may need antibiotic medication. For this, it is better to take him to a pediatrician, since he would be able to examine the child properly, and prescribe the appropriate dose antibiotic, according to the weight of the baby.

Best wishes,
Dr. Sheeba Stephen
