Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Child Scared To Pass Stools. Red Anus, Bumps In The Area
My 3 year old was recently toilet trained for pee. Now he is scared to poop and actively holds it in. As a result, his anus is very red. Now it is red and there are pimple like bumps in the area. We have tried petroleum jelly. He says it hurts and scratches it. It has been a week for the redness and about 3 days for the bumps.
The anal region will not be red or have pimples like bumps in the area due to holding of stools. There must be some other reason for it. It is advisable that you show your son to a doctor who shall examine him and guide you.
Due to passage of hard stools, a child can develop anal fissure which is very painful while passing stools. By giving laxatives and/or using suppositories, you can make the stools softer and thereafter the process of defaecation less painful.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
