Child Was Scratched By Cat. Should She Get Vaccinated?

My daughter was scratched on the arm by a cat living around our home. Then the cat disappeared. Have not seen cat since and it s been 8 days. I know the cat was acting fine and did not intentionally scratch, my daughter picked her up to move her off the road and the cat got startled. My concern is, what if the cat had rabies . Should my daughter be vaccinated?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
As you are not able to trace the cat, I advise you to get your child vaccinated completely for rabies with 5 doses on 0, 3, 7, and 14 days.
And at the same time you observe for any rash or fever, as there are chances of getting cat scratch disease after the bite or scratch by a cat.
So consult your Pediatrician for vaccination advise.
Hope I have answered your query.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Since cat has disappeared and you cannot trace it,so i recommend you to get your child vaccinated as per immunization schedule.
She needs vaccination on day 0,3,7,14 and 28.
Get in touch with your pediatrician and get her vaccinated as early since it has already been 8 days.

Wishing your child good health.
God bless.
