Child Was Undressed Below By Doctor And Felt On Private Parts After Answering No For Bladder Problems. Is It Appropriate?
I am a mother of a 4 year old, however I went into the doctor today for my child's 4 year old shots & wellness visit. I am concerned and need answers! Do doctors make your child undress down to their underwear and check (physically) not just site seeing, their anal and front private area after they've asked you does your child have bowel movement or bladder problems and you answer no. Well I answered no today and my child doctor proceeded on to pulling her undie half way down touchin on her back side and then asked her to turn around and then felt on her private area
Although usually uncomfortable for the child and the parent, Examining the private areas of a patient are necessary for a thorough annual exam. The doctor performing the exam, however, should be sensitive to the modesty of the child and parent and should never do anything without first verbalizing what is about to be done. Additionally, the doctor should never be in the examination room alone with the patient. Different doctors will approach this in different ways. But all children should be prepared ahead of time that this is going to be done.
