Hi there,
Thank you for choosing healthcaremagic.
We will try our best to answer your question.
You have mentioned that your 8 yr old son is having sharp stabbing pains all over the body. Also, your son is taking
montelukast,
qvar and bromfed for cough that has been there since feb 2013.
There could be several possibilities.
For these sharp stabbing pains, I thing you should get your son's electrolytes checked (sodium, pottasium, calcium, phosphorus) and also you should have his vitamin D checked.
Also, if he is having
prolonged cough and has had this for long, there is a possibility that his muscles might be inflamed and maybe suffering from
myositis, for which he can have his CPK (
creatine phosphokinase) checked.
For his cough, has he been frequently evaluated for his 'asthma', if he has frequent attacks of cough, then he will need change in his medications or increase in dosage of his qvar if he is taking it regularly. Qvar is supposed to be taken twice daily everyday and it would be more effective if taken with a spacer.
Also, if he has frequent infections with
fever, then he needs further evaluation by his
pediatrician and may need more investigations, a CXR needs to be done when well as well as during an infection.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
