Child With Chronic Diarrhea, Bouts Of Nausea, Has Lactose Intolerance. What Treatment Is Advisable?
My son is 14 and has chronic diarrhea . I know is lactose intolerant but the diarrhea is pretty much every day. He also has bouts of nausea . About once a month he will wake me out of a dead sleep at night and say he feels like he is going to throw up. I m so frustrated and don t know what to do. I always think its the flu , but I know that can t be every month. Please help!
I would advise him the following in such a situation: First of all stop milk and milk products. Also identify other foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems. Stop anything that contains preservatives. Boiled for 20 minutes and cooled water only. Fresh homemade foods alone. Send stool for 3 consecutive days for lab and get treated if there is an infection or infestation. CT scan of abdomen and colonoscopy under the guidance of a Gastroenterologist can help to identify any other causes like tuberculosis or so of intestines and get treated accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
