Child With Swollen Hand Due To IV Insertion For Blood Removal. How Long Will It Take For Swelling To Come Down?

My baby had blood taken and then the nurse tried to set the iv fluid but baby screamed when they tried to flush the iv. Told the nurse that something is not right and when we looked at babies hand it was a little swollen. Hand still swollen after 7 hrs. Putting warm compress on while she's sleeping. Any signs I should look for? How long would it take to go down?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Dear,
Welcome to the HCM.
IV cannula is countered. means it has pierced out of the vein wall and the iv fluid has extravasated out of the vein. It will take some time to wash off gradually, Hot compresses are OK.
IV site to be changed immediately changed.
Hope the query is answered.
Thanks
