Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a blood test to check my cholestrol levels last week and have just had a call from the doctors receptionist saying that the doctor would like to take some more bloods as the levels were a little high. Do I have anything to worry about and what causes my cholesterol level to rise?
You will have to adapt your diet. It would be a good idea to get one of the books on the subject which are flooding the market -- some ideas here. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=cholesterol+book&ei=utf-8&fr=b1ie7
We are fighting cholesterol through diet in our home and we eat pulses rather than meat and use olive oil and Benecol (the only fat on the market which reduces cholesterol) rather than other fats. We avoid salt as far as possible. We start every day with oatmeal (porridge or muesli). There's a lot of reading up on the subject ahead of you.
The doctor will probably ask what was happening in your life when you took the tests, as stress can be a major factor. We'd all like to know what to do to avoid that!
