Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Clot Development Post Quadruple Arterial Open Heart Bypass Surgery Leading To Coma. Recovery Time?
I had quadruple arterial open heart bypass surgery. 4 days later after improper removal of a temporary pacemaker I was filling with blood and developed a clot. Doctors had to perform emergency open heart to remove the clot. I was in a coma for 17 days following. Everything except my left lung heart and brain shut down. How long until I fully recover?
It is difficult to say; it seems that you actually had a temporary arrest and coma; for most patients, and again depending on age and other medical problems it may take several months to recover, including physical strenght; only therapy and time will determine if there will be any residual deficits from the events, particularly from the nervous system.
Hang in there! Keep strong! One day at a time...
Yours truly,
