Colitis Was Found Through Colonoscopy. Taking Prednisone And Llalda. Is This Treatment Correct?
Having diareha for 3 months. Had a colonoscopy 10 days ago and colitis found. Started on 10mg. of Prednisone for a week and Llalda 1.2 gm taking 4 a day. My gastroentrologist thinks I will be well within 3 weeks. I am 79 years old. 5 or 6 years ago I also had colitis and Prednisone did such a number on me with trouble sleeping.. My daughter read on this site about using Black Strap Molasses. Do you have any other suggestions? thanks
Thanks for the query. There are several medications that can be used for inflammatory bowel disease, not only prednisone: sulfasalazine, mesalamine, azathioprine and cyclosporine among others; the last 2 just like prednisone "pacify" the immune system thus increase somewhat the risks of aquiring infections.
Talk to your GI doctor about these other possibilities.
Hope that helps, wish you the best,
Dr Brenes-Salazar MD
