Constant Bloating, Tummy Pain, Change In Bowel Habits, Diagnosis Of IBS, No Improvement With Medicines. Suggestion?
Hi. For the last 6 months I have suffered with constant bloating , constant tummy aches and changes in bowel habits. I ve had ultrasounds, blood tests and stool tests and all have come back fine. I ve been told that I have IBS but mebeverine , colpermin and buscopan don t work. I m at my wits end. It s depressing and I m fed up with being tired.
Hi, You can try to attempt to control your symptoms through diet. Here are a few recommendations, Ensure that you - eat regular meals, do not skip meals or eat late at night, take your time when eating meals, sit down to eat and chew your food well, regular exercise, make time to relax. To control bloating, try reducing your intake of resistant starches (they tend to ferment and produce gas) like pulses, whole grains, sweetcorn, undercooked potato, reheated breads, chips, crisps, ready meals like pasta etc. Oats and golden linseeds may also help with symptoms of wind and bloating. Keep a food and symptom diary to see if diet affects your symptoms. And give your bowels time to adjust to any changes that you make. Hope this helps, Dr Anjana rao.
