Constipation And Bloating, Mucus In Watery Stool. Do I Have IBS?

I am 53 years old male. My stool evacuation is usually very less and I always feel bloated. There is no problem with appetite. I am 5'11'' height and my average weight is 80 kgs. There is also lot of mucous in the stool and whenever I pass stool it is always accompanied with gas/wind. Despite the urge of motion the stool quantity is
very less accompanied with gas and that too after trying for long and exerting some pressure. I have done colonoscopy 2 years back which was OK and take regular fibre like Lactifiber as per doctor's advise. There is no blood in the stool but mostly I have noticed that after going to toilet, initially I pass watery and mucous mixed stool followed with formed narrow stool although limited quantity at the end. The toilet time taken is minimum half an hour and the toilet gets filled with foul smell. At the end I do not get the satisfaction of emptiness of the abdomen. This generally hampers the general enthusiasm in work and feeling of general satisfaction during the day. My CBC always shows a little lower than normal haemoglobin count (around 12,7) and platelet count in the range between 1-1.5 lakh. Please advise if this is IBS. If so what line of treatment needs to be done.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. Having constipation and bloating are symptoms of IBS and having them chronically can take a toll on your mood. IBS has its origins not just in the intestines but also in the psyche and I think that you should be visiting with a psychiatrist after having a thorough check up with your GI doctor who will probably tell you that you have IBS and start you on medications. Stress has a lot to do with bowel regulation. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
