Consumption Of Levofloxacin And Ibuprofen. Can It Cause Digestion Issues, Fever Or Flu?

The pamphlet for levofloxacin says to let your doctor or pharmacist be aware if you are taking ibuprofen. I did not know iof this was due to interaction of the two drugs, decreased antibiotic effectiveness, or because they both might cause digestive issues.
I presume it is safe for me who has no digestive issue, but fever and soreness of flu-like disease that may have some bacterial pulmonary component.
Thanks

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Interaction between Levofloxacin and Ibuprofen is rather hardly possible. Both medicines are quite safe and in regular dosages should not affect each other.
However both can cause gastrointestinal symptoms.
Ibuprofen is NSAID medicine which in high dosages or with regular intake lead to stomach issues like peptic ulcer.
Levofloxacine like most of antibiotics affect regular intestinal bacteria. That is why it should be taken along with probiotic. Otherwise, bad bacteria grow in the digestive tract and can cause diarrhea and many other symptoms.

I suggest you to consider both issues. In case of upper middle abdominal pain, gastroscopy might be necessary. In case of diarrhea, stool tests should be done.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
