Could Coumadin Overdose Causes Raised INR And PTT?
My 75 year old grandmother went to the ER 7 days ago for a severe headache, vomiting and blood in her stool. It turns out her INR and PTT were off the charts. According to the Doctors and nurses they were the highest numbers they had ever seen. She also had a bleed in her cerebellum. She was given FFP and vit K, then steroids. She began hallucinating so they restrained her. Her ph is 7.41 and her Pco2 is 68. They believe she has respiratory acidosis and aspiration pneumonia. They are considering intibation. My question is could this all have been started by a coumadin overdose. She has been on coumadin for probably 3 years after she had open heart surgery she then developed atrial fibrilation. She is a diabetic and takes more medications than i can count. However i do know that she was taking 6 mg of coumadin 4 days a week and 8 mg three and she had her INR checked 4 days prior to her hospitalization and it was 2.5
