Could I Have Bruised My Kidney Or Cracked A Rib After Falling Off Of A Ladder?

I fell off a ladder two weeks ago landing on my back and rt hip. I have had continuing pain in my upper rt back region. Hurts when I roll over or move. Sometimes it is a sharp pain. No swelling only small bruise on hip. The fall was from about 8 ft and I am 74 years old but in fair physical shape. Could I have bruised my kidney or cracked a rib?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you had a fall and have been having pain. You are right that you could have bruised your kidney or broken a rib, though a broken rib would be much more likely.

I would recommend you see a doctor to get a chest x-ray to check that out. They might also want to do an ultrasound to look at your kidney and other organs to make sure there was no damage done.

Thankfully it doesn't sound like you broke your hip but they may want to x-ray that too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
