Could Imodium Given To A Dementia Patient Cause Constipation?

My husband is a dementia patient, 81 years old, we are taking care of him at home, every now then he has a bout of loose motion, if he has more than one loose motion in a day, I would give him an Imodium tablet which usually takes care of it. When I consulted my family doctor he said it is better to let him have loose motion rather than giving imodium because the medication tends to cause constipation. What is your opinion. Also what kind of foods should I give him when he is experiencing loose motions. Thanks.
