Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi i was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in May 2011. Prior to this time i was fit and healthy with no family history of RA. I had a Mirena coil fitted in Jan 2011 and it was just after this that i started experiencing stiff and painful joints. Is there a connection between Mirena coil and RA?
Welcome to HealthcareMagic, Mirena coil contains the hormone levonorgestrel. Mirena is a good coil and has less side effects. Coming to your question, there is no connection between Mirena coil and Rheumatoid arthritis. It is just a coincident that immediately after inserting the coil you were diagnosed as having RA. Hope that answers your question. Regards, Dr.Imaad.
