Pale
optic nerve on
MRI brain is not a specific diagnosis for MS or any other disease. Pale
optic disc can be seen by eye examination.
On MRI, we need to find
white matter lesions in certain parts of brain, such as periventricular,
corpus callosum, posterior fossa, etc to make a diagnosis of MS.
In addition, a person needs to have symptoms suggestive of MS, such as decreased vision in one eye, to give any significance to the optic nerve finding.
