Could Blood In Phlegm Be Due To Rupture Of Blood Vessels?

Hi, I am recovering from a particularly nasty cold, in which my sinus cavities were blocked more than my previous experiences with colds. In the past 2 days, the blood in my mucus has increased and now when I blow my nose, it is essentially blood. The blood to mucus ratio is about 8:2. I have had this cold for a week now, and my ears are so clogged, I am having a difficult time hearing. What bothers me the most is the excessive blood in my phlegm. Is this a sign of an infection or just an increase of blood vessels rupturing?
Thanks.
