hi. my son had a blood test done recently aobut bleeding disorders...it came clear...yesterdya i have noticed various bruises on his legs and started wondering if a new blood test would show anything wrong....so my question is: is it possible that something not showing in a blood test a month ago could happear all of a sudden? many thanks...a concerned mother
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Bruising on your legs couold be due to platelet disoder or coaugulation disorder.
You need to get platelet count and peripheral blood smear examination to assess the status of platelets.
If platelets are normal in number and morphology then coagulation tests have to be done- PT and aPTT.
PT and aPTT will determine whether there is any abnormality in the coagulation pathway.
Viral infections are known to reduce platelet counts and thus cause bruising and other bleeding disorders.
Thus consult your primary healthcare provider for these investigations.
