Could Decrease In Dosage Of Tapazole Cause Mood Swings?

My son who is 56 and is disabled was diagnosed with hyperactive thyroid last summer. During the past couple of months he has been having fits of rage so severe that I am afraid for his health. Right now his prescription is for 5mg of Tapazole. Originally he was to take 5 tablets once a day, the last couple of times is prescription calls for 1 tablets once a day. Could this decrease in dosaage be a contributing factor for his mood swings? Thank you.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello

Hyperactive thyroid itself can cause mood swings. The picture sometimes resemble a psychotic or a mood disorder.

Tapazole is the right choice for him.

Tge rage may be due to uncontrolled thyroid levels rather than drug.

I would suggest you to go for his thyroid examination.
The dose of tapazole can then be adjusted accordingly.
If the rage is still does not controlled, a psychiatric opinion should be taken.

Thanks.
