Could Elevated Neutrophils Cause Nausea, Vomiting And Diarrhea?

I became very ill 4 days ago with I think was food poisoning. vomiting and diharrea. now experiencing nausea. some rectal bleeding for about 5 hrs. none now just nausea. no temp. latest lab tests, 1 week ago showed elevated neutrophils (abs) +.2. I am 79 and other wise in very good heath.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your condition. Elevated neutrophils do not cause the symptoms you mentions, but, rather, they are usually an indicator of an underlying condition. In most cases, the neutrophil count is elevated in infections, such as the ones that cause intestinal problems.
Elevated neutrophil count is also common in other conditions not related to infections, such as acute asthma, heart attack, rheumatic fever and so on.
Neutrophilia can also be caused by vigorous physical activity or exercise. In some people, increased neutrophils are a normal finding.
Try to stay hydrated and get plenty of bed rest.
