I have andenmyosis and I have had my period for 50 out of 70 days this is after an ablation done on July 25, 2014. I need surgery says the OB/GYN however, I can t get into surgery until 10/24/2014 and I am getting a fever. Do you think the fever and my condition are related?
Fever can occur due to infection after any procedure or operation including ablation. It is associated with discharge, pain, tenderness, and soreness in the vagina and on internal examination. Fever could also be a coincidental viral infection such as flu or due to urinary infection.
A full blood count and C-reactive protein in blood when tested can give an indication of ongoing infection and inflammation. In case of pelvic or urinary infection, a seven-day course of antibiotics that is active against a broad range of bugs (such as Augmentin three times daily - if there is no penicillin allergy) and pain relief with paracetamol and Ibuprofen can be taken. An alternative is to take high vagina swab and urine for culture and give antibiotics if it is sensitive.
Ablation removes the uterine lining. It reduces bleeding in this way. If the diagnosis is adenomyosis - that is thickening of the uterine wall (muscles), it is unlikely to be of help. Surgery is the solution if the bleeding is excessive.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
