Could Greyish Skin With Dark And Rough Skin On Knuckle, Elbows And Knees In A Teenager Be Due Lack Of Vitamins?

My son who is 13 yrs old had fair and smooth skin before. Since a couple of yrs his skin looks greyish and the knuckle, elbows and knees have dark and rough skin. (inspite of not exposed to sunlight) Is it due to defficiency or lack of some vitamins ?

Hi.

You may be right. Your son may be having nutrition deficiencies. Many times, vitamin B12 deficiency precipitates such type of presentation. However, you consult dermatologist for firm diagnosis. Investigations for vitamin B 12, thyroid function and other needed blood tests may be done. If B12 deficiency is there, give him either tab or inj of B12 in proper dose.Kojic acid containing cream or gel may be rubbed on pigmented skin for Long period along with vitamin E containing cream. Give him nutritional diet full of vitamins and minerals. He may be alright after few months. I hope you got my answer.

Thanks.
