Could Having Thyroid In Pregnancy Effect Brain Development Of The Baby?

hello, i m 26 years old i m 8 weeks pregnant my free T3 is 4.4 pmol/L and free T4 is 15.0 pmol/L and TSH serum is 7.41 ulU/ml. I started medicine after my 8th week. I just want to know this would have affected my baby s brain development as i started medicine late. I read on internet that during the first 10 to 12 weeks the baby thyroid is not developed and it depends on mother s thyroid. My thyroid got treated after 8 weeks passed.

Hi,
Usually there should be no problem since you have started the medication at the time of organogenesis. It is true that with untreated thyroid deficiency in pregnancy, there is a risk of low birth weight babies and preterm deliveries and also abortions. Also, the dosage of the hormone supplement is gradually raised as pregnancy progresses. You need to have regular follow up and manage your hormone dosage and go for anomalies scan in early second trimester. Hope this helps.
