Could Headaches And Missed Period While Suffering From Wheezing Be A Sign Of Thyroid Issue?

how do i find a good thyroid doctor who knows that the 'normal' may not be everyone's normal. I think my thyroid is not working properly, my mom almost died and all of her sisters have thyroid issues. I have been tested 2 times - 10 years ago when I first started feeling sluggish and gaining weight and 2 years ago when I was gaining 3 lbs a day and had severe water retention (pushing in my shin a full inch and it wouldn't pop out) ... now I'm having other symptoms (headache, missed period for 2 months when ALWAYS extremely regular, etc). Even though all tests came back as 'within normal limits', I have a suspicion that those normal limits are not MY normal limits. How can I get a doctor to take all of this into account. At this point, I went from 126 to 173 (now) and I realize some weight gain is normal but I am wheezing and heavy breathing and I exercise by walking on my treadmill when I work (sometimes 2-4 hours a day).

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking on HCM!
I can understand your concern. In general the measurment of the thyroid hormones is the only way to check it's function. As you insist that you have a large familiar hystory for thyroid problems i would recommend you to do also an ultrasound of the thyroid gland.
Regarding your symptoms, if you insist that your diet is not exaggerated during the last years and you do enough physical activity, i would recommend you to do some exams, such as;
-Urea and creatinemia
-The electrolites (Na,K,Cl)
-The cortisol level
-Urine analysis
I am opened for further informations after the above results.
Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
