Could Hormone Therapy And Insulin For Diabetes Result In Unprecedented Spotting?
I am having blood spotting from vagina. I take hormone therapy, I am 66. My gyno suggested I stop taking hormone therapy. If I do stop, will I bleed heavily like a bad period? He has also suggested a hystoscopy. I forgot to ask the appropriate questions of course. I am also on Byetta insulin for my diabetes. HBa1c=6.9. Good control.
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.
You are experiencing postmenopausal bleeding. This is very serious as the risk for cancer or pre-cancerous changes is as high as 15%. Your OB/GYN's advice is exactly right - stop the hormones until this is sorted out. You should have an ultrasound AND an endometrial biopsy BEFORE a hysteroscopy. If this does not jibe with their advice, then seek a second opinion as soon as possible.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
