Could Increased Dose Of Epilim Be A Reason For High Blood Pressure?
good day my boyfriend suffers from epilepsy. he is 40 years old and is taking epilim, lamicton and redilev (keppra). his neurologist has taken him off tegratol slowly and introduced the epilim over the last couple of months. he has also been increasing the epilim dose every month to try and control the petit mals. it has been working for that, but now all of a sudden since yesterday he s been feeling very lightheaded and off balance. i took his blood pressure on a wim and it read 172/127...i m very scared. could it be the increased dose of epilim (combined with smoking, salt intake and being overweight) that all of a sudden is giving him high blood pressure? please give me some indication. he has never suffered from high blood pressure. A
There are many known side effects of Epilim (valproate) including thrombocytopenia, hepatotoxicity and cardiovascular side effects. They include hypertension, tachycardia, and palpitations. An increase in blood pressure is commonly reported, which comes to normal on discontinuing valproate. Though hypertensive urgency has not been very common. See your clinician.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
