Could Infected Belly Button Piercing Cause Diarrhea, Nausea And Pain Around Pelvic Area?
Hello Doctor, I got my belly button pierced 15 days ago on my 16th birtday and its recently got quite sore and red. It's infected, yet I've been doing saline soaks 2-3 times a day since the day i got it. I've only had pus come from it once and that was about 4 or 5 days ago, since then, nothing. However, for the past 3 days I've been getting sick. Diarrhea, Nausea, Heartburn (I have Barrets Esophagus, but the heartburn has incresed), I have a fever/chills and a sharp pain runs across my pelvic area every now in then, in waves. I was wondering if all that could be caused from an infected belly button piercing? Thankyou
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. This is very rare to have infected belly button piercing and thence get diarrhea, fever, heartburn, chills and associated symptoms. Hence the cause may be an infective diarrhea. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Get started with a PPI, antacid and Domperidone if required. Send the sample for tests of blood and stool. Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation and correlation with reports and get started with an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics. Symptomatic treatment for belly button infection. Apply Liquid Povidone locally. CT scan to see if there is any relationship of the belly button infection with the present symptoms.
