Could Injecting Methamphetamine For Years Result In Nerve Pain, Sunken Arm Around The Artery, High Pulse, And Severe Cramps Throughout The Arm?

I’ve been shooting meth into an artery for years, had no idea that it was an artery nor did I know you can’t shoot into an artery. I have had a nerve going off in that arm for the past two days, and my arm has sunken in around the artery. Is this life threatening? I have arm pain..high pulse…and my fingers wrist arm and elbow are extremely cramping.

Hello,

Use of methamphetamine affects the CNS, central nervous system. veins, arteries, and capillaries. It also causes an increase in blood pressure, left untreated cardiac problems may arise. Since you are having high pulse rate, get clinically examined by a GP to detect your blood pressure. If BP is detected to be high, get routine cardiac check-up and investigations (blood tests and imaging tests) done to be on the safer side.

Get Nerve conduction velocity tests done. If required you will be asked by the neurologist, to get done nerve biopsy and other required neurological tests so that your treatment can be started at the earliest. Get connected to a detox center so that you can gradually taper the dose of meth you are taking. At the detox center your withdrawal symptoms will be managed so that you can successfully come out of your addiction.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
