Could Light Period Indicate Pregnancy?

Hi. My name is Shannon and I am a bit concerned. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on one of the days that I was fertile, and two days later I was ovulating. I am supposed to get my period on the 8th of September, and I kind of did. What I m concerned about is that my regular periods start of heavy, with very bad cramps, and usually when I wake up in the morning and use the bathroom is when my period comes. When the 8th came around, I woke up and used the bathroom, and I hadn t gotten any sign of my period. A few hours later, I was bleeding, but very lightly. Not like my normal heavy flows. I also have little cramps. Is it possible I could be pregnant? The blood that is coming out is a bright red color. I took a test about 4 days before my expected period and it came back negative.

Hello,

I have gone through your query and understood the concern. In the current scenario, you have good chance of conception and the type of discharge you are experiencing could be an implantation bleed. Home pregnancy tests read well when performed 3-7 days after an expected period, with a fresh early morning sample of urine. Please repeat the test or go for the blood test, which is more sensitive and specific. Confirmation can be done by a trans-vaginal sonogram and a proper clinical evaluation by an expert.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam
