Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Megace Be The Reason For Bloating, Acidity And Fatigue?
My 86 year old mother has been on Megace for about 2 months and is experiencing bloating, gas and extreme fatigue. She is eating more now as she is in a location where she is served 3 meals a day instead of living alone. Could the megace be causing this problem and if so, can it be discontinued?
Hi. You have not mentioned why your mother is on Megace and what dose she is taking. Is it to improve her appetite or because of some cancer (breast / endometrial) The symptoms you have mentioned are a side effect of Megace. If her appetite has improved and it is the prime reason why she is taking it, I would suggest that the dose be reduced first to see if she tolerates lower dose. I would be better able to answer your question if you repeat the question with details regarding dose and reason for prescription. You may discuss the dose reduction option with your doctor.
