Could My Current Symptoms Of Leg Weakness, Foot Numbness, And Pain Be Related To Spinal Stenosis And A Herniated Disc I Had 6 Years Ago?

I have spinal stenosis, I had pain all the way down my left leg I went to a chiropractor and the 3rd time he said go to your reg. Dr. and have her order an MRI I had an appt with a surgeon a few weeks later, by then my pain was gone. He looked at the MRI and ask me how bad my pain was 1-10. I said my pain was gone, he was surprised and said my stenosis was at least a 7, 10 being the worst. He said I also have a herniated disk I think he said 5th lumbar. That was 6 yrs ago, since then my legs get weak and my toes on my left foot started to hurt and are numb and then my right foot started to get sharp pains and it went numb. Could this be from the Stenosis ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Definitely, all your history is pointing towards symptoms due to spinal stenosis and herniated disc. The history shows that pressure may be increasing on the spinal nerve, resulting in increased intensity of your symptoms. Your perception of relief in pain as well as symptoms of numbness may be also due to loss of sensory input as a result of pressure on nerve. In my opinion, you are advised to see a neuro-surgeon or physician for further management urgently.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
