Could My Increased Magnesium Intake Be Interfering With Synthroid And Cytomel, Leading To Leg Pain, While Having Low TSH Level?
Hi I just received my TSH results showing level of .068 I currently take synthroid alternating .50 and .75 and cytomel 5 mg morning and again at 1:00. I have always been within range but recently experiencing leg pains so increase the magnesium I take could this be interferring with the medication
Yes, Magnesium can interfere with the absorption of thyroid medications. It is recommended to take these medications at least four hours apart to prevent potential interactions. Do not take magnesium without testing the level and unless your treating doctor recommends it.
However, you are advised to take a balanced diet. It is better to include food that have magnesium naturally like whole grains, nuts, seeds, fatty fish, bananas, legumes, avocados, etc. Taking magnesium in the natural form is the best. Do regular exercises, walking and maintain healthy weight. Avoid taking magnesium supplements as it can interact with your thyroid medication.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
