Could Neck Ache And Dysphagia Be Related To Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?
I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (diagnosed over 10 years ago and treated first with Synthroid and now Thyroid [Armor] for the last two years). Recently, I have had an ache in my neck, underneath my jaw and above my larynx. It feels like it's under the skin and doesn't involve my throat, though swallowing is a bit harder. Could this be related to the Hashimoto's?
The pain you report may be due to a viral infection of the thyroid gland that causes subacute thyroiditis. It should be confirmed by the endocrinologist. It may be associated with fever (37.5 grade celcius), pain in palpation and lasts 1 to 6 months usually. The pain is improved by non steroid analgesics (ibuprofen).
