Could Numbness, Heaviness, Or Weakness In The Left Side After Resuming Marijuana Smoking Post-breastfeeding Be Related To The Smoking?
Hello, I m a F 23 one pregnancy full term no complications. Health issues: minor muscular and skeletal issues from a deformed leg. Recently went to the doc had normal BP. Before my pregnancy I was a heavy marijuana smoker and after breastfeeding I resumed smoking. Now after smoking my left arm/face/side of chest feels numb, heavy and/or weak. The areas vary and sometimes it s only my arm or heaviness in my chest. The obvious answer is to stop smoking because the effects wear off after my high ends and if I haven t smoked I feel fine. What could this be? Is it just in my head or do you think I should be checked out by a doctor?
Smoking marijuana irritates the lungs and also causes changes in the heart rate, BP and thus vasodilation that leads to feeling of heaviness, weakness or numbness. High doses, cause side effects like anxiety, paranoia and numbness. Avoid smoking marijuana as it causes changes in blood pH levels.
It also causes hyperventilation, panic, and increased anxiety leading to tingly feeling. Yes, you are advised to get clinically examined by a GP. Get required blood tests and imaging tests done to detect any underlying cardiovascular or lung disease that needs urgent medical support and treatment.
Your treatment will depend on the diagnosis made. You are advised to get connected to a detox center so that you can successfully detox and so that your withdrawal symptoms can be well taken care of.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
