Could Pain And Swelling In Ankle With Bruised Foot After A Hit Be Broken Bone?
Hi I hit the inside part of my ankle with a scooter a week ago. It still hurts to bend and move around. It also hurts when I touch it. It s still swollen and has a bump so big that it looks like the other side of my ankle where the bone sticks out. It also feels numb when I touch it lightly. Also lower down on my foot it is bruised up all along the bottom and side like blood went down. It doesn t hurt to much to put weight on it but hurts when bending it while walking. Is it broken?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Large bump might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood). You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
