Could Pain In Right Side After Bladder Sling Surgery Be Due To Hematoma Needing To Drain If Not Absorbed By The Body?
I had bladder sling surgery four wks go tomorrow. During my surgery my bladder was nicked and I had to go home with a catheter for a week. Wednesday at my apt I told my doctor that I am having pain in my right side. On exam he says he feels a hematoma and to come back in four weeks and if it is not absorbed by my body by then he may have to drain it. Is this something I should worry about and how is this done?
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist,i can understand your anxiety. A nick in bladder, with a catheter kept for a week, won't end in hematoma. The injury in bladder would've been more severe, with blood in the catheter. If the urine in the catheter was clear, the injury was minor. A hematoma in pelvis can be easily diagnosed,by doing an ultrasound scan. A hematoma gets well absorbed into our system,so don't worry about it. You must see if the surgery has served it's purpose. If you've any other doubts, send it as a direct question,to me. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
