Could Severe Cold Be Due To An Allergic Reaction To Calcipotriene?

I use calcipotriene topical solution, 0.0005% for treatment of hair loss. my dermatologist believes I have the start of frontal fibrosing alopecia. I have burning lips, sometimes they become sweollen, but not always. But always seem like I have been out in the severe cold or wind and hurt. I tend to believe this started once I started this topical solution last fall. Could this be the sing of an allergic reaction to this medication?

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
Calcipotriene is not known to be associated with any allergies s per your description.
The burning on your lips could be because of dryness/ excessive licking ( lip lick cheilitis).
You could try to apply petroleum jelly every 2 hours and avoid licking your lips.
Since you have been diagnosed with a type of scarring alopecia, the other possibility I would keep in mind is an entity called Lichen planus. This could affect the mucosa (like lips and buccal mucosa) as well as cause a scarring alopecia ( called Lichen planopilaris). The mucosal component of the disease could cause symptoms as you have described.
The diagnosis can be made by a skin biopsy. I would suggest a scalp and lip biopsy along with a Immunofluorescence study. Please discuss with your treating doctor who can decide on the further management.

Hope this helps you.
Take care.
