Could Skipping Of Heartbeat Be Due To Side Effect Of BP Medication?
Hello......My fertility specialist started me on a Blood Pressure medication a week ago today? I went in for a consulation after suffering a mis-carriage, and he said my last couple of pressures were high? Since then I feel funny some days? It feels like my heart is skipping a beat? Could this be a side-effect from this new medication? The name of the medication is METHYLDOPA 500 (TAKING 2 TIMES DAILY)
Hello. Welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns.
Methyl dopa in higher dosage can give rise to bradycardia(low heart rate) which can be felt sometimes as a missed beat. It also cause drowsiness and headache at higher dosage.
Usually starting dose will be 250mg, 2 times a day and then gradually increased to 500 mg, 2 times a day.
So, my advice to you is, kindly contact your doctor and go for ecg. In ecg any missed beats even if it will be there will be detected. Ask your doctor to monitor your heart rate also and if it's too low then reduce the dose accordingly.
Otherwise Methyl dopa is a good medicine in pregnancy. Kindly follow my advice.
Thank you.
