Could Slight Contractions At 39 Weeks Of Pregnancy Be A Sign Of Labor?
I am 39 weeks pregnant with a history of early conractions and labor (was given tributeline from weeks 30-36). Today I've been experiencing extreme pain in my ribs, slight contractions and cramping. It aches to walk or move. Could this be a sign of labor? Should I head to the hospital?
Hello, If the contractions increase in intensity and duration and pain spreads to the back and thighs, you are surely in labor. You should watch for the fetal movements, vaginal discharge and report immediately to your doctor if you notice any change. As you are term already, there is no harm if you deliver now. The pain in ribs could be due to the joint laxity associated with late pregnancy and also due to the push of the uterus on the rib cage. Please take rest in left lateral position. You may use local analgesic for relief. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you safe motherhood.
