Could Sore Throat, Fever, Chills Aches Be A Result Of Acute Bronchitis?

I have been diagnosed w/ acute bronchitis, although the symptoms were rapid onset of severe sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, chills, aches, etc., that came on 4 days after returning from Latin America. My spouse is scheduled for hip replacement surgery in 3 days, and I have not had any abatement of symptoms, which now include severe and constant cough, green mucus, and fever (100-101). I went to our clinic, and requested a strep check but was not given one (I forgot to request during the actual visit). I would like to now request azythromycin to protect against secondary infection, because at the rate I am going, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to be AT the hospital, much less assist with his care. Is this reasonable?
