Hi,

There are a few general considerations when it comes to medication side effects. Some medications, including clarithromycin, can cause gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach pain and nausea. These side effects are typically listed in the medication's package insert or accompanying information.

If the side effects are mild and tolerable, it may be appropriate to continue the medication as prescribed, especially if it is effectively treating the pneumonia. Sometimes, these side effects can improve as the body adjusts to the medication.

However, if the side effects are severe, persistent, or worsening, it's important to consult a healthcare professional. They can evaluate the situation and determine whether it's necessary to adjust the dosage, switch to an alternative medication, or discontinue the medication altogether.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Vasudha's  Response
Hi,

Have you taken it on an empty stomach? This may cause hyperacidity with nausea following the antibiotic intake. Please take it with light food. You can add antacid (like Gelucil MPS to be sucked with pain / vomiting feeling). To avoid such problem, give him sips of water to avoid any dehydration and consult his doctor if the problem does not subside.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
