Could Strong Urine Odor With History Of Having Mild UTI Indicate Recurred UTI?
I had a mild UTI about a month ago. No longer feel any symptoms of the UTI, except my urine still has a very strong odor. I occasionally get UTI s, especially after sex. They go away by drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice. I have never had this strong urine odor problem before. Do I still have the UTI and should I get treatment?
Hi, In view of your recent UTI, it is likely that the strong odour in urine is due to a persistent UTI. Please do a urine microscopy examination. If pus cell/WBC count is more than 5/hpf, it is suggestive of UTI. Then a proper course of antibiotics should be able to treat it completely. Low dose or inadequate duration of antibiotics can lead to persistent infection. To prevent UTI after sex, remember to pass urine after every time you have sex. If the problem recurs frequently, you can take a single dose of prophylactic antibiotic after sex to prevent UTI. I am ready to answer any more clarifications you need. Please mention your age and sex for better understanding of your problem and proper guidance. Wish you good health, Best regards, Dr. Raguram
